Polish Priest Hacked The Man With Axe And Then Set Him On Fire As He Clung To Life

The killing occurred on Thursday evening. At around 10:20 p.m., a passing cyclist reported a burning body lying near the roadside. The witness also spotted a parked SUV nearby that suddenly drove off without headlights. The license plate number he provided led investigators to the parish house in the nearby village of Przypki.
Police quickly identified the local priest as a suspect. He later confessed to the crime.
According to prosecutors, Mirosław M. struck the victim several times in the head with an axe. Mirosław then doused his body with a flammable liquid and set him on fire while he was still alive. He then reportedly watched the man burn from inside his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The two men apparently knew one another. Police believe the fatal confrontation started during a drive together. At the center of the conflict was a property transfer agreement. The contract stated Anatol Cz would gift his apartment to the priest in exchange for lifelong care.
Mirosław M. is facing life in prison for committing murder with exceptional cruelty. Warsaw Metropolitan Archbishop Adrian Galbas has formally asked the Vatican to remove him from the clerical state.
Church In Poland Responds As Local Community Mourns
News of the horrific crime has deeply shaken Poland.
It was led by Bishop Rafał Markowski, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Warsaw. Markowski is the brother of Polish rock band Perfect frontman, Grzegorz Markowski.
During the service, Bishop Markowski sought to comfort the community. He also acknowledged the pain and confusion caused by the tragedy. He described the priest’s actions as “incomprehensible and beyond understanding.”
Church Asks The Vatican To Defrock The Priest
Prosecutors on Saturday charged the priest, identified only as Mirosław M. under Polish privacy rules, with murder of particular cruelty.
A cyclist discovered the 68-year-old homeless victim in the village of Lasopole in the central Mazowieckie province.
Prosecutors allege the priest and the victim had previously signed a donation agreement. The agreement stated the man would transfer the property to the priest. In return, the priest agreed to provide lifelong care for the homeless man.
However, the pair apparently got into a heated argument while driving through the rural roads. That is when the priest allegedly struck the man with an axe. He then doused the victim in flammable liquid and set him ablaze while he was still alive.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect through license plate numbers, leading them to the parish rectory.
Poland’s PAP News Agency states that is when Mirosław M. then confessed to the crime.
On Saturday, Warsaw Archbishop Adrian Galbas requested the Holy See to dismiss the perpetrator from the priesthood.
