FBI Says Alabama Man Used Social Media App Kik To Arrange The Most Brutal Rape Imaginable
An Alabama man is in custody following an investigation by the FBI. The man used the social media app Kik to hire someone to kidnap and brutally rape a woman in Wisconsin.
The FBI arrested Matthias Jacob Edward Mann, 22, last week at his family’s home in Hartselle. Police charged Mann with attempted kidnapping. They also charged him with attempting to entice someone to cross state lines to commit a sexual crime.
Court documents show Mann carefully planned an entire attack. Mann met the woman online. However, the two had never met in person.
A Minnesota Detective Was Monitoring The Social Media App Kik
Detective Christian Berg with the Owatonna Police Department in Minnesota was being a watchful guardian on December 29th. Berg was monitoring a group called, “Abduction and R@pe 3” on the social media app Kik. The group allows users to describe various fantasies and request the sexual assault of others. Members can also trade rape/sexual assault videos.
Court documents state Berg saw a new user with the screen name “Dylan H.”
“Dylan H” posted a message on Kik in the “Abduction and R@pe 3” group around 1:29 pm. His message read, “Can anyone abduct and rape a bitch in Wisconsin?”
Minnesota Detective Baits Alabama Man Using The Social Media App Kik To Arange The Rape Of The Woman
Court records show Detective Berg responded to Dylan H.
Berg wrote on Kik that he was interested in helping with the request. Dylan H. then provided the name of a person from Wisconsin he wanted to have kidnapped and raped. Records show Mann offered the detective $2,000 to complete the task.
Dylan H. also allegedly sent Berg several pictures of the woman along with a physical address in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He described her as an “ex-friend” and requested that she “needs the most brutal **** rape imaginable.”
Dylan H. reportedly told Berg he had tried to do this before. However, the person who was going to carry out the act tried to expose him.
Court documents state that during their chats, Berg told Dylan H. he lived in Minnesota. Dylan H. asked how long a drive it would be from where he lived to where the victim lived.
At this point, Berg said he contacted the Sun Prairie Police Department in Wisconsin. He wanted to ensure the woman would be safe. Investigators with the SPPD were able to verify the woman was a real person. They then contacted her to inform her of the situation.
Law enforcement then devised a plan to ensure her safety.
Police In 3 States Team Up To Launch Investigation
On Dec. 30, Berg called Dylan H. and recorded their conversation. During the call, Dylan H. reportedly confirmed his request to have the woman abducted and raped. Court documents state he confirmed the woman was a former friend/acquaintance. He also stated he wanted a video of the abduction and sexual assault as confirmation.
That evening, Berg asked the woman if she knew anyone in Georgia. She remembered the name Matthias Mann. However, she told Berg they only talked online and had never met in person. She also gave investigators a screenshot of Mann.
The detective continued talking with Dylan H. on Kik and through text messages over the weekend of January 1st and 2nd. Dylan H. agreed to pay the detective $100 for gas money and $2,000 once the rape was completed.
The FBI received a series of subpoenas and search warrants to telephone service and internet providers. As a result, nvestigators determined Dylan H. had ties to Georgia and Hartselle. Police identified Dylan H. as Matthias Mann.
The woman contacted investigators saying she had received crude messages from the phone number associated with Mann.
On Monday, Mann reportedly contacted Berg. Mann told him to mail him the video of the rape at a Hartselle address. Police believe the home located on at the Hartselle address is where Mann lives with his parents.
Police And FBI Move In
The next day, police in Owatonna, Minnesota contacted Alabama FBI Agent Christopher Hendon. They were alerting him to the situation. Law enforcement then went to Mann’s address and found a car registered in his name in the driveway.
On Wednesday, Mann sent the detective $75 through Zelle for “miscellaneous” expenses.
The FBI arrested Mann on Thursday.
